This is an old revision of the document!
Details
- The lab is equipped with a Weller soldering station with temperature control
- The following guidelines should be followed when soldering:
- Inspect the soldering tip before starting a project, if it is heavily oxidized, it may need to be replaced (spare tips are available in the electronics bins)
- Set the temperature on the Weller station to between 650-750 F (some experimentation is required)
- Use the solder stored in the wheeled cabinets to tin the tip of the soldering iron (it is good practice to tin the tip regularly to avoid oxidation)
- If the solder is not melting, the tip is likely oxidized, or the temperature of the iron is too low
- TURN OFF the soldering iron after every use, leaving it on unattended presents a fire hazard
