Getting an Account
To connect to the CIM/Reparti Matrix server, you will need to obtain a CIM service account. This account is separate from the account you use to access CIM computers, but you can share the same username and password.
To get an account, you will need to fill the CIM account form available on this page: CIM Account or if you already have a CIM computer account, simply contact us at support@cim.mcgill.ca and we will create your CIM service account.
Connecting to the Server
We recommend Element as the matrix client to access the CIM Matrix server. You can either install the Element application to your device (available on most platforms), or you can use the web interface available at: https://element.cim.mcgill.ca/
When you open Element, you'll need to sign into the CIM matrix server
You will need to tell Element which server to join by changing the url of the home server (if using the web interface, you do not need to follow this step as the web interface will only connect to matrix.cim.mcgill.ca)
Set the homeserver url to matrix.cim.mcgill.ca
You can then sign in with your CIM matrix username and password.
Once logged in, you'll want to join the CIM space by clicking the + icon
Select Search for public spaces
And select the Centre for Intelligent Machines Space
And click Join to add the space to your client
Changing your password
For security reasons, you cannot change your password from within Matrix. To change your password, you can visit: https://swordfish.cim.mcgill.ca/ and follow the instructions. If you cannot use thi site for any reason, please contact support@cim.mcgill.ca and we will reset your password for you.
